Sloth Bear Expert Team Co-Chair

Thomas is the director of conservation and research for the non-profit Wildlife SOS (WSOS) in India. He works closely with a team of researchers and wildlife rescuers that live in India. He currently researches and implements conservation solutions for sloth bears. Much of the conservation research is focused on human-sloth bear conflicts and has focused on ways of mitigating sloth bear attacks which are a major conservation problem for the species. He also studies habitat needs for sloth bear populations holding on in small degraded habitat areas. Thomas also works on other species in India including the Asiatic black bear, Himalayan brown bear, leopard and elephant. Before working for WSOS he worked he worked in a variety of settings across the United States (including Alaska, Florida, the Intermountain West, the Northwest Coast, and the Southwest) and internationally (including the Micronesian Islands of Guam, Rota, Saipan, as well as in Taiwan, Bhutan, and Laos on everything from golden eagles to elk.
