Hüseyin has been studying brown bears in Turkey since 2003. His Master's was human–bear conflicts, and his Ph.D. was about brown bear ecology in northeastern Turkey. He is now an Associate Professor in the Wildlife Ecology Department at Düzce University and has been principal investigator for various projects in the lesser Caucasus and Mediterranean Regions in Turkey. He does research on human–wildlife conflicts, perceptions and attitudes of locals, not just on bears, but also threatened cat species (leopard and lynx), and ungulates (Anatolian chamois and ibex, fallow deer). He loves making field trips to different ecosystems in remote locations, is a good cook, and is enthusiastic about mountaineering and cross-country skiing in untouched places.
