Andean Bear Expert Team Co-chair

Roxana is a PhD student at the University of Reading (UK), where she is conducting research to assess the current state of knowledge on human–Andean bear interactions across South America. She has developed a comprehensive database of documented interactions through an extensive literature review and is currently expanding this work by incorporating unpublished and non-academic data, in collaboration with diverse stakeholders throughout the species’ distribution range. In parallel, Roxana is developing a standardized protocol for reporting and publishing interaction events, working closely with Andean bear experts. She has been actively involved in the study of human–bear interactions and the distribution of Andean bears in Peru since 2010 through Isnachi project. She also has extensive experience in wildlife conservation, having worked for 6 years with the Frankfurt Zoological Society in Peru alongside local communities and governmental agencies at both local and national scales. She is strongly interested in capacity building and collaborative work with Andean bear researchers to increase knowledge of the species and promote the exchange of experiences and expertise.
