Giant Panda Expert Team Deputy Chair

Vanessa Hull is an Associate Professor in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida. She has conducted research on giant pandas since 2004. She received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Behavior with a minor in Chinese language from Bucknell University and a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy from Michigan State University. Her research deals with giant panda behavior and ecology and she is especially interested in characterizing the responses of giant pandas to dynamic human activities. Her work also addresses the complex interactions between giant panda conservation and human livelihoods and informs the development of conservation policies in shared rural landscapes. She is a co-editor of the book Pandas and People—Coupling Human and Natural Systems for Sustainability and author of the children’s book Giant Panda (Young Zoologist).
