Comprehensive Book on Bears of the World

This is a freely downloadable, 250-page book (2024) published by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), Bear Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) covering many aspects of bear biology and conservation, including all 8 species of extant bears as well as some information about extinct bears.  This profusely illustrated book is intended as an educational guide, to help raise awareness about bears.

Primary author: Zsuzsa Petró, Member of Bear Specialist Group, Education Advisor of the EAZA Bear Taxon Advisory Group (TAG), and Head of Education Department / SóstóZoo Hungary.

Compiled Reference List

A cross-discipline reference list of "Recent Bear Literature" has been published in separate issues of International Bear News (IBN), the official newsletter of the International Association for Bear Research and Management (IBA) and the IUCN/SSC Bear Specialist Group. Recent Bear Literature was created by IBA volunteers Tanya Rosen and Jennapher Teunissen van Manen, and compiled 3-4 times per year by IBN correspondents Agnes Pelletier, Agnieszka Sergiel, Marion Schneider, and Abbey Wilson.
